It is my pleasure to do a testimonial for Coastal Homes who recently built my new home in Cable Bay. 

Because I was working in Auckland I needed to engage a reputable firm to do the whole project for me including all Architectural works, Council consents/permits, Utilities, Tradesmen etc, with as few encumbrances on me as possible.

From the moment I met with Glen Bradbury and the Coastal Homes Team I was immediately comfortable that my build was in capable hands with people of good integrity, and this was bourn out during the job.

We agreed a design and a price, and signed a Master Builders agreement. From there everything continued like clockwork.

My main point of contact was their excellent Project Manager Alicia Mavis, who sent me photos every week and ensured I was kept fully informed as to progress throughout the whole job. 

When I had to do any inspections as per the Master Builders agreement, Alicia walked me through the site, introduced me to all the tradesmen, and answered every question I had. She also liaised with me with advice and better alternatives on some of my choices for the fitout.

The Coastal Homes Estimation, Admin, Finance, and Trades people were also professional, friendly, and easy to deal with and their processes were straight forward.

The handover was a dream and Glen’s after sales support is second to none.

Coastal Homes provided an exceptional building experience from start to finish. The design process was customized to our needs and budget and the build was managed efficiently and effectively with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction. The build started ahead of schedule and was completed to a high standard with excellent customer service and project management. The end result exceeded our expectations and the customer service was excellent, with quick resolution to any issues. The builders were highly skilled and friendly, and the team remained responsive even after the build was complete and paid for, making our experience a positive one.

The above testimonial was based on the 9 questions that I asked myself then answered below. Hopefully you will find this information useful.

Questions

1. 1. Explain the design process and experience
      The design process started with an enquiry. The response was very quick with a suggested plan that suited our property and needs with a specification provided at this time. This was the best response that we had with any of the building companies that we made enquiries with as it gave us a good starting point and budget.
      The most important thing about this beginning process is the work the home owner must do. This is our first ever build so we don’t know what we don’t know. We downloaded a bunch of questions from the Internet and then simply answered those questions and sent them to the Coastal Homes. Based on our responses they customised the plan to accommodate our requests and budget. The questions were:
      What are your “must-haves”
      What are your “would like”
      What can you live without
      What is the lie of the land
      What do we like about the plan
      What would we change if budget allowed it
      What is your budget
      
      On top of that, we consulted a friend who was good with colours and she helped us fill out the colours in the specification.
      
      With this information already in hand the first meeting was excellent and it started down a path of moving forward very quickly. There were many suggestions from Richard and Angela which helped us with the process. Most importantly, the design was done to meet as many of our objectives as possible while keeping as close possible to the budget.

   2. Did the house get built on time

      The house was scheduled to start on the 11th April and it actually started on the 2nd April. Very impressive.
      

   3. Were there any supply challenges and how did that relate to the build time

      While other companies have been struggling with supply, Coastal Homes seemed to have everything running like clockwork. While the water tanks ran behind time, it didn’t hold up the build. Our biggest concern was Gib but we were reassured by Glen that it wouldn’t be an issue and he was right.
      

   4. What was their customer service like
      
      Customer service was amazing from beginning to end. No question was stupid and everything I asked was responded to.

   5. How was the project management

      The project was very well managed and the site ran like clockwork. We were advised in advance of milestones and they were always met on time. There was great communication between ourselves and Alicia and we had an excellent working relationship. We had a lot of confidence in the project outcomes because we had a lot of confidence in the project manager.

   6. Was the end product what we expected

      The end product was better than expected. Because this was our first build, it was hard to visualise what the end product would look like even though it was outlined in the specifications and the plan.

   7. Was it a quality build

      The build quality was excellent with only very minor issues found. The builders are highly skilled.
      

   8. What was your impression of the builders

      We met the builders on site several times. They were pleasant and answered all of our questions and also made suggestions that would help us such as adding additional nogs in the walls to hang heavy items. They then diligently added them for us and took photos.

   9. How is the response after the house is built and paid for

      The team were very responsive and attended to issues quickly. They were very approachable and as we had follow-up ideas after the build, they were very receptive and gave us the time to answer our questions and follow through with our ideas.

We are delighted with the beach house Coastal Homes has built for us.

We found them professional, helpful, organised and easy to deal with and always willing to accommodate the inevitable changes we dreamt up as the project proceeded. We’d have no hesitation recommending them.”

It is a pleasure to write a reference for you. With the recent completion of our home in Coopers Beach there are many positive and complimentary things to say and we are very happy for you to share them with potential clients.

Our first experiences involved getting working drawings completed and being given a fixed quote. These confirmed that a decision to build with Coastal Homes would be the right one and we proceeded.

We made a visit once framing was completed and were able to check the quality of the build at this stage. It surpassed our expectations (and we have builders and engineers in our families!) Now that the build is complete we look back on the process with huge pleasure and at our lovely home with immense delight.
